YAY, PARTY TIME – Part 1

I am so exited as I have been asked to plan and host a children’s craft party! 20 children aged between 5 and 6! I love how creative young people are, they are not afraid to express their creative side 🙂

I am now engaging the creative side of my brain to come up with fun and easy craft ideas that will entertain the kids for an hour or two. I also would like to create things that they can take away and treasure, well for a few days anyway, all without actually breaking the bank too lol.

So here is my first idea, an exercise book that they can personalise, decorate and colour. The colouring can either be done at the party or later on when they get home, depending on how the time goes!

I measured the exercise book, and I realised that I would need two sheets of A4 paper.

My book measures 9″ x 7″ so I just cut both A4 pieces on the long side only so that the card now measures 10 1/4′ x 8 1/4

I used Tear N Tape to attached the two pieces of cardstock together.

I placed the exercise book onto the cardstock and once I was happy that the card join was along the stapled edge of the book, I first cut off the corner of the cardstock.

Then I folded over the side edge of the paper. I closed the exercise book to ensure that the card hugs the book and can actually close. (if the card is too tight then the book won’t close completely) before cutting the second corner as above. I then hand folded the other side edge.

Once I was happy I had straight lines I used a bone folder to burnish the folds before gluing ( you can use tear n tape if you prefer)

Next I cut into the centre of the card stock on the top and the bottom as per the picture below.

Just fold and glue and the book is now covered, easy although for this age group, I will cover the book ahead of the party. If the children were older I would probably let them copy my instructions.

Then next step is to decorate, which is the part that the children will do themselves.

They will each stamp out their names although it will be an adult who will fix the stamps to the block so that the letters are all lined up.

I will probably limit the number of images and base colours so that the stamps don’t need to be cleaned between use or changed.

I will also encourage them to stamp another image inside the books to make the pages look a little more interesting.

I might provide some embellishments so they can do some sticking.

So do you think the kids will like this activity? I do hope so.

Thanks for reading Creative Fraggle, have a super day!

Love Lynda x
