A SPECIAL DAY

I have to admit, I have never been a morning person. In the past I would much rather lie in bed for an extra 5 minutes and then skip breakfast to arrive on time.

Well that was until I moved to Australia! Here wow the mornings are just stunning and I can’t believe how many people are out and about!

This morning I managed to drag myself out of bed and with some encouragement from my husband (which translates to having the covers pulled off me and the blinds being opened!) I decided to go for a jog and boy I am so glad I did! I was in the local park by 6AM passing several dog walkers on the way. How cheerful is everyone at that time of the day! Every person either smiled or said hello. What a way to start the day, so much happiness! The wildlife was so active too, so many birds singing and cranes wandering about. I came home and wanted to turn that beauty into a card.

Card 1

Luckily my latest order arrived yesterday, so after a quick shower, I unpacked the box.

OMG why O why has “ALL MY LOVE” DSP been discontinued? It is really stunning. When I ordered it from the clearance rack I never really paid much attention to the pattern as I just thought it was such a bargain (I cannot resist a bargain lol) I knew it would come in handy for “SOMETHING?” But it is just gorgeous and it so reflects my mood today all bright and summery just like my morning.

ALL MY LOVE DSP

So today’s cards were inspired by my “Special” early morning.

The first card the sentiment came from “Stitched All Around”

The card base is made from Soft Sea Foam which is one of the colours in the DSP. I cut this at 5 1/2 x 4 1/8, this way I can actually get two card bases from each A4 size paper! ( it does mean the card is slightly smaller on one side than a standard size card but I like to stretch my paper as far as possible!) because of the card size I cut my DSP 5 1/4 x 3 7/8″ ( I think usually it would be 5 1/4 x 4″ ( not a noticeable difference in my opinion)

In this latest delivery I bought the Nested Labels Die which co-ordinate with the Free as a bird stamp set ( which I previously purchased, if I had bought them as a set I would have saved 10% ! but last month I had other priorities unfortunately 🙂 ) So I used the largest die to remove the centre of the DSP and create the stitched outline on the DSP. ( Don’t dispose of the insert! We can use this on a later project)

Notice the stitched effect the Die creates.

I measured a piece of whisper white card stock, which I decorated using the leaves from the Free as a bird stamp set ( stamped in crumb cake to match the DSP, I didn’t colour these as I wanted a subtle background.)

I layered the DSP onto the white background piece using Dimentionals and then glued onto my card base, adding 3 co-ordinating rhinestones to finish the card.

The second card is slightly more intricate as it involves a little bit of fussy cutting.

Card 2

For this card I decided to use Balmy Blue as this colour also co-ordinates with the DSP. I attached layer of blue (5 3/8 x 4) to the base which created a small border for the White stock

The sentiment was from “Free As A Bird” along with the leaves used for creating the background for the whisper white card stock on the card front and for the fussy cutout leaves which are used as decoration.

I stamped this sentiment onto whisper white card stock before using one of the smaller dies to cut out the nested shape. I used the same sized die for the Balmy Blue Card stock but for this piece of card I had to fussy cut the outer piece of card stock. The die leaves an outer line on the card stock so follow this line to cut out the nested shape. The white then fits into the hole, which as you will see below I cello taped the two pieces together which I later attached to the card with Dimesionals. It does look a little messy but no-one sees the underside,

On this card I again used the Nested Dies to cut the DSP but this time I used the inner section piece (and also used the slightly smaller die. I then used the largest size to cut out the Balmy Blue die to create a back ground for the DSP. ( For all of these Die cuts, I Cut my card at 5 1/4 x 3 7/8 and carefully line up the die into the centre of the card so that I have an inner piece and an outer piece so I can actually do two projects from each card stock)

For the fussy cut leaves, I coloured using Old Olive and then to lighten I used a blender pen which adds shading. Balmy blue was used for the flowers.

All the pieces were glued together using Tombo glue with the exception of the sentiment as per above.
